Stories Of The Month

Litter Bug Pick up

Taking time to show their pride for the school, FBLA members armed themselves with gloves and garbage bags and set off throughout the campus and parking lots to pick up litter and trash to help make the school grounds look better. FBLA members in Mrs. Lillis’s Business Leadership class take it upon themselves each year to get out at least two times and help to tidy-up the campus. Picking up trash not only improves the school environment, but it is a great way for students to get outside and enjoy the beautiful Central Oregon climate. And it always helps when Mrs. Lillis has hot chocolate ready for the participants when they return to class!

"Tis the Season As FBLA Members Keep Giving

The holiday season is a time of giving, and Redmond’s FBLA members are never too busy to give more of their time and efforts. For the 3rd year now, members have volunteered to assist guests at Redmond’s annual ‘Festival of Trees’ event held at the Expo Center. The event is organized by the local Hospice organization; and at the event, local businesses decorate and donate beautiful holiday trees that are auctioned off to raise money for Hospice. The highest-bid tree this year was auctioned for $2,500. This year’s event was held during a time of the winter season when temperatures were sub-zero. But that didn’t stop the dedicated FBLA members from again helping at the festive event. Dressed in thick oats, knit scarves, thick gloves, knit hats, and hand-warmers, chapter members who helped with the community service activity this year were: Daniel Stealey, Hannah Johns, Chase Wilson, Jessica Brunot, Carlos Renteria, Daphne Lara, Dane Blume, Breana Handy, Sandy Johnson, and Carolann Perkins. The duties that FBLA members help with are the hat and coat check desk, as well as with assisting guests as they arrive and depart by giving them a ride on golf carts to and from their cars in the parking lot. Even though it was minus 15 degrees that night, FBLA members are already planning a repeat performance to help with the charity event next year. “It was so, so cold, but we had fun”, says member Daniel Stealey. “As long as we were able to come in and warm up every so often, it was OK”.

Student Spotlight

Junior Katherine ‘Kat’ Fleenor is this winters spotlight member. Kat is in her 2nd year of FBLA, and this year she is our very active and capable chapter president. Kat is an excellent public speaker, and she will be competing in the ‘Impromptu Speaking’ event at SLC. Kat is also a key member of the school’s Speech and debate team where she excels in persuasive speeches. We are proud to have her in our Chapter Club.
